Good morning,
We’re seeing a rising trend in e-mails that are reporting to provide legitimate software upgrades.
The emails are usually claim to come from the support department and highlight the latest features the upgrade will give you.
Current popular targets are Adobe Reader and Skype.
Once you click on the links in the email you’re taken to a very well designed site which certainly looks legitimate. (example screen shots are at the bottom of this message)
However, once you try to download the application you’ll be asked for your credit card details. These will be taken and you’ll actually end up with no software and your card details will likely be used elsewhere on the Internet.
As well as the screenshots below there are also examples of the emails so you can help identify any message you may receive.(with the links removed of course!)
Software companies should never randomly prompt you for updates in this manner and as always you should never install an application unless you are 100% sure of its authenticity.
If you get a message like this delete it.
If you’re still not sure get in touch and we can check it out for you.
Always treat unsolicited e-mails with suspicion.
Please pass on this information to anyone you feel may benefit from it.
As always if you aren’t sure about anything that looks even vaguely suspicious please get in touch.
